What to Expect
I have an awesome online scheduling and file maintenance system that is very user friendly. I like this system because of its ease of use and because it allows you to be in charge of your scheduling / therapy needs. However, I never want you to feel like you cannot contact me directly, so if you have any questions or would like to consult with me before making a decision to begin services, please call or email me. Saying hello does not mean you have to commit to anything. I am happy to answer any questions you have about me, therapy, the process, etc.
In fact, your process starts with a complementary 30-minute initial consult. In the initial consult, we discuss your individual needs, including what you want to achieve in therapy, my workshop approach, workshop packages for your unique needs, and of course, we will ensure that we will be a good fit for one another. No commitment to therapy is needed for the initial consult or thereafter. You can take as much time as you need to decide if you would like to pursue services and select a workshop package.
Should you choose to proceed after completing your initial consult, we schedule your Discovery Session. At this point, my system will prompt you to complete an online consent form for therapy. This form is necessary for us to begin services and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. We will review and discuss important aspects of this form in person together at your Discovery Session (see workshop information below). You will also have ample opportunity to ask questions or seek clarification of anything.
How long does therapy take?
This question comes up a lot, and I know you know the answer… It depends. It will depend on your needs, your goals and your circumstances, including the workshop package that you select.
Sometimes in just a few sessions, a small shift in perspective can drastically change how you feel and you might decide it is enough for your life situation. You might work through one goal and decide that you want to work through another which could require an additional workshop package depending on your initial selection. Regardless, I am happy to keep tabs and discuss your process along the way to ensure you are informed and fully free to choose the therapeutic path that best suits your needs.
With that being said, therapy is not meant to drag on forever. My approach is short-term. We get specific about your needs, get right to work on those needs, and clear or reduce your emotional triggering. From the process, you will learn strategies to help you as you face additional challenges in the future. You cannot unlearn what you learn. By completing the process through the method I use in the workshops, we are ultimately teaching and helping your brain change the way it perceives, thinks and feels. Thus, in the future when you face additional challenges that have the potential to overwhelm you, you will feel better equipped to handle those challenges. For specific times of overwhelm that bring up complex perceptions, I have created a Renewal Workshop – a 2-hour check-in and check-up session that has been specifically designed for those who have previously attended a workshop and want help to clear a specific event or challenge showing up in their lives.
How do the workshops work?
Each workshop begins with a Discovery Session. During the Discovery Session, we will review consent form issues and/or concerns; review your history in detail; define specific therapy goals; and define a hierarchy of triggers to address in the workshop sessions. This session prepares us for your therapy and the work to be completed in your chosen workshop. We compile a list of important therapy issues to address and schedule your workshop times. We complete what I call a Focus Form so that together we have a clear map and direction to maximize your therapeutic success.
We then get to work in our workshop. We use our previously defined hierarchy of therapeutic issues and I implement a specific method that includes a series of specific questions to help you clear your emotional and/or mental challenges. Throughout the workshops, we check in on how we are meeting your therapeutic goals. We can shift, change, or redefine anything along the way.
The therapy process is easy enough; however, nothing comes from nothing. Inherently there is a balance of pleasure and pain in life. Working through your challenges in the workshops requires you to confront your fears, pains, and grief in order to obtain relief. However, the way I see it is that if you are currently longing for relief in your life, you are already experiencing levels of pain and grief. Why not take charge and consciously face the pain and grief directly so that at least you have the power to achieve relief instead of just hoping that relief will magically appear? This is how the workshops can help. You can learn as I guide you through the pain and grief by asking the right questions so that you can achieve relief and move forward with living your desired life.
Your journey begins with the booking of your complementary initial consult. You may schedule yourself by going to my online booking system. From there, select “Initial Consult” and find a time that works to complete your booking. When you click on Complete Booking, Jane will bring you to a finalization page that will ask you to create a profile. Jane allows you to book subsequent sessions, to cancel and/or reschedule, to access your session history, and to set session reminder preferences. If you are having any challenges using Jane, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
Workshop fees vary based on the package that you select. To find out more about my workshop packages click here. Fees are generally paid in advance of services rendered. Please feel free to discuss payment options. Outside of my workshop packages, my rate is $225.00 per 50-minute hour.
Payment & Insurance
Most payments are made through Jane using secure payment and credit card features. There is flexibility to pay by Visa, MasterCard, Visa debit, personal cheque, cash, or e-transfer. Clients are responsible for any returned cheque charges.
Many clients are covered by private insurance. Please inquire with your health insurance provider regarding the details of your coverage. While some companies cover the entire cost of a therapy session, others do not, and most have a maximum limit for coverage. Receipts are issued at the time of payment and can be used to obtain a reimbursement from your insurance company for services. Obtaining reimbursement from an insurance company is your responsibility unless your provider allows for direct billing (see below).
When contacting your insurance company for details of your coverage, be sure to verify:
- that psychological services are covered by your policy.
- that you are not restricted to psychologists of their choosing.
- who is covered on your plan.
- how much your plan covers and the details of coverage:
- does your plan pay the full session fee or only a portion of the fee per visit?
- does your plan cover a number of sessions or a maximum amount?
- what is your yearly renewal date?
- whether session length is a consideration.
- whether you need a physician’s referral.
- what the procedure is for reimbursement.
Direct billing is available for the following insurance companies:
- Green Shield Canada
- Pacific Blue Cross
- National Blue Cross
- Veteran’s Affairs
- Canadian Forces
- Great-West Life
- First Canadian
- Chamber Commerce
- Johnson Group
- Maximum Benefit
- Claim Secure
For those companies that are not on this list, please know that I provide an electronic receipt at the time of your session so you are able to seek reimbursement immediately.
It is my policy to maintain a valid credit card on file as back-up for all clients seeking direct billing. In the event your insurance only pays for partial coverage or your claim is denied by the insurer/plan administrator, you still remain responsible for payment of services rendered. In these situations, I can and will charge the credit card on file.
Any fees not covered by insurance are tax deductible as part of health care expenses on your income tax return.
Missed or cancelled sessions without 24 hours advance notification are charged a full session fee. This charge is not normally covered by insurance policies.
